Kingdom Hearts Fan Art (Made by Me This Time!)

So, in case you didn’t already know, I’m something of a Kingdom Hearts fangirl. In my eyes, the series can do no wrong (Except for that DS version of Coded…that was so bad I couldn’t even bring myself to finish it.), and I still firmly believe that someday, I’ll get to play Kingdom Hearts 3. (Please, Square? Pretty please???)

Back when the Mark of Mastery edition of Kingdom Hearts 3D was announced, I threw my money at it as fast as I could. I mean, it’s the 10th anniversary of the series, and it still hasn’t seen a collector’s edition until now. How could I not? That little beauty will show up on my doorstep soon, and in the spirit of counting down the days until I shut myself away from the world to play and review it, I’ve started drawing some Kingdom Hearts characters in Inkscape during the times when I’m not writing or applying to jobs. I’ll try to do one a day from now until the game’s release. We’ve all seen how committed I ultimately end up being to daily things (What can I say? Life happens.), but I’m going to try.

Here’s my first bit of Kingdom Hearts fanart. It’s a little chibi-esque Sora, modeled after his Kingdom Hearts II costume. I drew him up in Inkscape.

He doesn’t have as many buckles and zippers as he ought to because I got lazy at the end. And don’t mention his hands. I truly suck at drawing fingers in any medium, so he has weird stubby hand things. Maybe I’ll add a Keyblade later. I suppose his shoes could also be bigger…eh, whatever. Putting this together was pretty fun. Now that I have a couple of person templates, I feel like I’m making paper doll clothes when I do this. Not that I’m complaining; I loved paper dolls as a kid.

Now to figure out how to turn these cute little drawings into something crafty…I could do shrink plastic charms. I’ve also been considering making some nifty backgrounds to put behind them and making buttons or prints. Whatcha think?

Are you looking forward to Kingdom Hearts 3D? Do you with that Squeenix had done something with a little more fanfare for the 10th anniversary? (Maybe that’s just me.)

    • Thanks! And no, I don’t think it’s necessary to play Coded first. Don’t quote me on this, but I seem to recall reading that KH3D will be newcomer friendly in that it will have some backstory that you can read before jumping into a game if you want to. Also, Re:Coded is just not a great game. Just read the story from it on a wiki. It also has a secret movie at the end that drops hints about KH3D (main reason I bought it, even though I never made it through the darned thing), but you can probably find that on YouTube somewhere.
